So it’s the day I am scheduled to volunteer at Rakkasah. I arrive a little early to check in as volunteer. Mention that I am on waiting list to perform. If I do perform, it will be my 1st Rakkasah performance. As I am being briefed by other volunteers on front door dancer check-in, one of veteran volunteers of back stage, Amy, noticed a dancer has yet to check in and is scheduled to go on shortly. She gives me the slot!!!
OMG! OMG! I am beside myself this is really happening! I rush to get checked-in as a dance performer and change in costume.
I am waiting backstage in the wings still in disbelief that after so many years attending Rakkasah, I am actually going to be performing at Rakkash. Finally, after it seems eternity with butterflies in my stomach, it’s my time to go on to dance.
The music starts, I try to let all fears go and just immerse myself in the music, the dance. I feel like I am floating on air. The crowd that early was small but great! I am feeling a natural high, performing there on that stage in that moment!
Special thanks to Amy and other volunteers for making that moment happen. Also my teachers and inspirations: Neon, Tanna Valentine and Kim Leary…
Here’s bits from that performance. Audio is a bit out of sync with video. Professional photos to come later…
